The Miami Herald Media Company have opted for a new office.
A media company in Florida have agreed to take on office space in Miami as they look to relocate after agreeing a deal to sell their original downtown office building last year.
Floridian newspaper the Miami Herald has agreed a deal for a new home after agreeing a deal to lease 158,265 square feet of office space in Doral, with the newspaper’s parent company also agreeing to purchase an extra six acres of land to the east of the leased office space.
The new commercial office was the former headquarters of US Southern Command but will now be known by its new name of One Herald Plaza at Westpoint Business Park.
Miami Herald were looking for a new home after agreeing a deal to sell their waterfront offices in Miami to the Genting Group for a reported $325 million last year, which will allow the new owners to continue their plans to convert the area into a luxury casino and beach resort.
The parent firm Miami Herald Media Company selected the former military complex as it had the requisite design and construction attributes needed to run the newspaper business, thereby needing little investment from the Miami Herald.
Miami Herald’s move into its new offices will commence in late spring of next year, when Miami Herald’s deal runs out on their present office premises in May 2013.
Tere Blanca, the Commercial Real Estate President of Blanca, who were involved in the deal said: “After surveying the market and determining the factors of greatest importance to the Miami Herald Media Company, it soon became clear that Westpointe Business Park offered the perfect mix of functionality, flexibility and access.”
